    “Lately,have I told you I love you”

    Lately/Tyrese

Hello out there , it’s been a little while! Life has been lifin’ and I was not able to write a post lately. My little one has been back at school for a few weeks now.Every year we wake up early on back to school day and have breakfast together in the city. This time we chose to go to Eric Kayzer , the bakery opens around 6: 30 AM. We were actually some of the first people there. One of the employee was busy cleaning up, setting up tables for the day. Around us were a group of older Lebanese men there to catch breakfast and not feel alone .

This was their moment and they were taking their time eating, talking… Just like birds they kept migrating as a unit from one area to another lol. Around 7: 30 AM other parents came in with their children to enjoy breakfast. My preteen recognized a few familiar faces. Close to 8 AM I dropped her at the gate of her school. She is a big girl now and does not need me to accompany her inside of the school. This year, elle est en 4 eme, it’s a tricky grade because new subjects and concepts are introduced like writing an essay. The first time she tried she ended up crying at having to re write the introduction 😅. It’s not easy..but here we are on est en 4eme !

Apart from that, she is also learning to navigate girls friendships . L’apprentissage comes with getting upset one minute and reconciling the next . As a parent, all you can do is listen share a bit of wisdom and let her learn on her own. I watched a clip of the Drew Barrymore show when the principal guest that day was the legendary Anette Bening. The actress shared that as a parent she listens a lot and let her child makes her own mistakes so she can learn on her own while still being there to catch her if she needs her. I thought that was great advice, so many times as a mother you want to intervene, fix but you also know that you cannot live life for your child.

You have to remember that you might not always be here physically so somewhere inside of her she has to build balance doucement doucement. In her art class, they were given an assignment to express their feelings through painting freestyle. She was very invested in creating her art work over the weekend . This morning before she went to school she showed it to me and said something interesting ” no one would understand the use of colors ect”. I asked her” what do the colors that you used expressed” . She replied that when she’s upset about something those are the different emotions she feels. I asked her to try to explain to me what she meant and of course afterwards I gave her advice on how to learn to manage emotions and added that it’s a lifelong process 😅. When I remembered Anette Bening’s advice I finished it all by telling her that we should frame her beautiful art work .She thought it was a cool ideal. Kudos to her art teacher to encourage African girls to express their emotions. Bref..here we are back to school…cheers for more school year adventures lol.

    Bonne rentrée à tous.

    ‘Till next time 🙂
