If anyone is in Dkar and wants to work out the Olympique Club of Dakar is awesome..love the classes.the energy of the members..its a beautiful thing to see young educated african people all united in a class…my black people..aight im not gonne ‘yes we can’ on u guys lol…but ahhh….loved it…my body is aching…but I feel goood…life is so tough that when i can have an awesome day doing somethig simple ..im over the moon..

Anywhoo sharing some of my fav songs lately..im nottttt a die hard hip hop fan but thisΒ  song does it for me..go figure… I guess when I listen to this song I think of a brotha or a sista who’s fighting for their dreams, their goals and singing their determination ‘I get in till the sunrise..eeee’ when he speaks money and all of that i think whatever is sucsess to one…thats how i get through the song…loves it ….:)

So when u hear it think of ur sista all the way in Dakar ….eeeeee

  • It’s Her Bday…and My thoughts on the Musee des Forces Armees/Dakar Senegal…

I know I always mix the arts and some type of celebration on my posts…

Anywhoo it was my best friend Rica bday yest..and we deciced to catch dinner with her sister in law Bigue at la Palmerais de Dakar…

We all had a craving for crepes…if you do go..try the berta..with shrimps onions and bechamel, gratine, and cheese…suculent..for those on a date..the portions are huge as well so u and the boo can share…We ended up staying discussing laughing for a long time actually…time does really fly when you have a good time:)

In the morning I went to visit the museum des Forces Armees de Dakar…I realy enjoyed this cultural place, I learned so much about the laptos de Goree, les tirailleurs senegalais, I learned about Macoud Fall the first Senegalese officier of the French Army…

They did a great job with the pictures with the dolls that represent these courageous men, reacting their lives, my guide Mr Ndong one of the artists there explained that when the tirailleurs senegalais would go to war they wives would join them to help them reload their guns..ect

Actually at the museum you can see some of the guns used that were made around 1880..I mean history koi

I learned about the last tirailleur senegalais who died around the age of 100..Mr Ndong was really upset that this man never really received the respect that he was due even the interest actually in his life ect..and I feel like we could have learned so much from this man…

If you do go please enter the room called ‘La guerre des Tranchees’ it so well reproduced..you really feel the war the state of urgency ect…

    Bref I loved it…

  • Trust me on this one ..I know my way around pastries in Dakar

Yes this could actually be one of my new resolutions..lol

But it’s still 2008 so the verdict is the best place for creme brule, mille feuilles and palmiers in Dakar is La Royaltine no doubt..

You can feel the butter, the madeleines are done just right moist without being too moist..now the filling of the mille feuille is scrumptious…Their palmiers are out of this world as well…

  • Histoire de African paintings & art pieces at the Galerie Antenna de Dakar

I wasn’t a big museum fan as a teen but I’ve come to appreciate paintings ..to stand in front of one and wonder what the artist wanted to convey through his brushes or simply let my imagination flow..

For now this Gallery is my fav’ in Dakar…I wish I could say that the Museum of Dakar was great but unfort’ it’s not …they really need to revamp it.

The Gallerie on the other hand is just alive everywhere you turn you discover pieces of our continent with pieces collected by the late Marthe Everle and her husband Claude

I actually got the chance to meet this unique and passionate art collector, he brieflt gave the history of the Gallery ect..

It’s worth visiting so if it’s saturday morning and you are bored for example why not please your eyes and enjoy our heritages..

  • I am just impressed by you Miss Khadys Beye…

I was introduced to the work of Khadys Beye by anotherΒ  phenomenal African woman Malenty…word up mama….)

Khadys is from Senegal but was born in Italia where she grew up before moving to Canada..she speaks fluently Italian,French and Woloff

Her sensualΒ voice may sound familiar to my African people living in Montreal where she has been hosting a radio show for the past 3 yearsΒ called “D’une rive a l’autre”Β abt the African Diaspora particularly in Montreal…

Being that she was born and that she spent most of her formative years in Italia she feels equally Senegalese and Italian…while living in Canada she keeps her Italian identity alive by writing a column for an Italian mag’…

This huge fan of Youssou N’dour is also a TV show host onΒ the local Canadia TV station CJNT ..The show is called “Paysage Afromonde” eveything that touches upon our continent is addressed…

I see a bright future for this resourcefulΒ  intelligent and beautiful young woman… I believe that she’ll be a major pioneer within the African media industry andΒ I am Β looking forward to writing more about her in the near future

  • Naming Ceremony a la Dakar style…end of the end and all its jazz

Baptems in Dakar according to my religion are quite elaborate, the baby is named a week after he came into life..Usually the father is given the first choice of the naming of the baby…In most cases if it’s a boy, the dad choses to give his father’s name sometimes in one of my friend’s cases he gave her father’s name..

Aicha my coworker and her husband gave the name of his first cousin on his dad’s side to their daughter…funny enough her name is Aicha as well.

The ceremony was simple, I shared laughters with my coworkers over some rice…The ladies were dressed in our traditional outfits..bazin is the def’ the queen of fabrics..purple.yellow..blue

Most senegalese women like to put a lot of make up on , they use purple eye liner or dark and vivid lip liner..ect..They chose not 2 be discreet in their make up and find themselves more beautiful w/a lot of make up on…It’s not really cup of my tea I like simplicity..but…

Anywhoo ended up with my friends at Duplex…we had a good time ..funny part was when they played oldie but goodies..Boyz II Men everyone around us started singing along …

However I’ve noticed that for the most part we are all so westernized when they plan African beats a few people dance..the dj didnt even bother playing senegalese rythm..that club is very chichifoufou anywhoo..

  • Papa Noel Just brought me simplicity of the love of a mother…what more can I ask for?

Memories of the best christmas are simply od memories of my brothers Alpha Doudou and Ablo waiting impatiently as kids to wake up and see our gifts under the tree, at the time my sister was long goneΒ  and I was the only girl among the boys..

One of my fav’ memorie is receiving English audio tapes…stories songs about ducks, cows ect…iya iya oo learning how to speak English…(nerddddd i know)lol

I remenber the one year I received Barbie’s hair salon..dying her hair orange..Gosh girlfriend Barbie has been around

I remenber my baby brothas playing around with their cars…one of the few momens when we didn’t have to argue we were all full

Funny enough I don’t recall as special the Christmas I spent at Uncle’s Sam I’m sure they were fun..I probably was hanging out at a club somewhere with friends screaming when the African Dj would say Senegallllll….Maliiiiii.lol my African people from NY may relate…

This year was special mother isn’t currently here but is in love enough with her daughter to iniate , invite me over a call on our friend Skype’s expense to talk to me for a couple of hours2 hear me out..and just give that support that only the people who give birth to us can…

So I guess yes I’ll add this christmas to the limited list of best Xmas….because of one phone call that meant the world to me..just to feel the love of my mother was all I needed…I guess the Lord truly just give u what u need at the right time…

Papa Noel 09 better bring it if he wants to compete with 08..cos it was simply perfect…my heart is full!!

AI PATA PATA..IYA MAMA IYA MAMA:)
