Who is Maurice Bejart: One of the most prominent European dance choreographers of our century
Germaine Acogny and the fabulous dancers taking a bow
Why would they honor him all the way in Dakar: Simply because he loved our Africa, he saw the beauty of our dance and thought it was important to bring Western techniques in order to dev’ African Dance. In Dakar helped by Germaine Acogny he founded the Mudra Afrique School….
Why did I want to attend: The energy from the dancers that were from various parts of West Africa..the fro-atitude….curiosity abt the Bejart legacy…curiosity abt the Acogny myth
Verdict: Beautiful, interesting, lovely evening
Fav’ part: Seeing all these ‘natural” African brothers and sisters on top of a Senegalese stage performing for the very first time some of his most extraordinary pieces…
The thing not to do: Run over them..I know I may sound sarcastic but true of true the legend has it that if you do their owners will blast of you bad luck..true or not if you are smart enough I don’t think you will want to find out…
I do think that it’s smart to have cows running free in an urban city such as Dakar..but MAYBE..just maybe it’s things like this that remind us of the authenticity of our continent..of the rural way of life we used to live…
Cows Cows..I shall let you go….pardon’ooo no problem man
Suspect: Folk alors la Real of Real folk and Soul Singa with an A just so you feel her soul..
